The Cosmic Enneagram

“The Cosmic Enneagram” is the name of an entirely new kind of Enneagram school that is currently emerging.

It is also the name of the ancient teaching around which this new school revolves.

And it is the name of the symbol that stands at the center of this teaching.

The Symbol – Empty and Full of Potential

The Enneagram is a symbol that connects the first nine natural numbers — the nine digits of our decimal system — in a logical and surprisingly elegant way. This is its first and most obvious characteristic.

The second very important characteristic, which is often overlooked and which I therefore wish to emphasize, is this: the Enneagram possesses no inherent meaning whatsoever. It is empty in content.

Precisely in this absence of meaning lies an essential part of its value.

In these two characteristics — formal structure and openness of meaning — the Enneagram mirrors life itself.

Life also follows certain laws and structures. And yet it is free of inherent meaning. There is a structure — but what it means arises only through us.

The Enneagram is therefore an invitation to create meaning.

Beyond Typology or Process Model

The symbol of the Enneagram is primarily known through the personality typology founded by Ichazo. This teaching is valuable, yet the Cosmic Enneagram is far more than that.

Less well known is the symbol as a process model, as described by some students of Gurdjieff. This approach is also interesting. Yet the Cosmic Enneagram reaches far beyond even this.

Gurdjieff, who brought the Enneagram into the public sphere, called it “the fundamental hieroglyph of a universal language.”

All knowledge, he said, is contained within it — and only what a person is capable of recognizing within it has truly been understood.

A Portal – Not a Method

In approaching the Cosmic Enneagram, it is advisable to forget everything you previously believed you knew about the Enneagram.

Here you approach yourself.

Not your personality type. Not your behavioral patterns. But your true, radiant, innermost essence.

The image of the Holy of Holies.

The eternal face of God.

The Cosmic Enneagram is a portal.

The final gate before the Formless.
